Useless Bites
A cold winter breeze on my face
Hither a coffee in hand I sit
Bitter though the cup tastes
Within I do feel it sweet.
Did you know that “Frankenstein” was the name of the scientist character who created the “monster” and not the name of the “monster” itself?
Interesting that this story was written as a result of a competition to write the best horror story. And there is a subtle representation of “Man playing God”, where the “monster” refers to itself as “the Adam of your labours” when speaking to Frankenstein.
Just another useless bites for thought and talk.
This song has been playing on the TV like almost every single day. It must be one of the world’s most played songs. Apparently came from the movie Wizard of Oz, which was based on the book by Lyman Frank Baum. I guess it is the utopian nature of the story represented in the song that led to everyone loving it, including me. Especially, it brings back some fond memories to me.
Of course just to share this little useless bite of information, here are the lyrics:
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can’t I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can’t I?
Now someone asked me before where did the hamburger originate from. Many of us would say it came from America, as it is understood from popular culture.
However, the name of this dish actually came from the city Hamburg. Although the actual origins came from the Mongols who brought them into Europe. As the story goes, the Mongols would ride on their horse-backs for days in a row. They would carry their meat under the saddles as they rode. The galloping of the horses slowly minced the meat into what we know as hamburgers today.
So the next time you sink your teeth into the next burger, think of the long history and distances it has travelled to be what it is today. Some useless bites for you to tell your friends at your next visit to the fast foods.
Did you know how difficult it is for some kids in the world just to get to school? This is a picture of children crossing a collapsed bridge, just to get to school.
So the next time you think school is hard, think about the kids from the more under-privileged parts of the world. Then school ain’t that hard after all.
